The King Charles House, New Street, Worcester. Tel. 01905 22449
|
It's not easy to forget Worcester's involvement in the Civil War as there are plenty of reminders as you walk through the streets. One of which is King Charles House, one of the city's most historic houses. It was from this house that King Charles II made his escape through the back door, closely pursued by Cromwell's forces to exile in France, after his defeat in the Battle of Worcester in 1651

Nowadays the building is a fine restaurant serving superb international dishes and offering great value for money at the Table d'hôte luncheon (served between 12.00 & 2.00pm).
The restaurant itself boasts a dungeon on the ground floor in which Judge William Berkeley supposedly kept his victims who awaited trial!

In the upstairs bar which is reputed as the King's bedchamber, you may relax and order over a drink. Meals are presented in the ground floor restaurant with full silver service.

Open fires in Winter, lace tablecloths, crystal glasses and candles at dinner all add to the excellent atmosphere of this restaurant.
